How will this printable programme help my child?
This kit will help you teach your child about anxiety and how to manage it using a weather theme. This child friendly approach makes learning about worry and relevant coping strategies accessible for children. Our aim is to make engaging, impactful resources that empower you to deliver education and wellbeing support at home.
By working their way through the 16 sessions, your child will learn what worry is, where it comes from (how the brain works) and how it can be both helpful and unhelpful. They will learn to recognise their worries and strategies to manage them.
Through our creative and unique worry weather character concept, designed by a trained Kids Coach and Primary School Teacher, your child will learn about their mind, empowering them to understand that they have a lot of control over how they think and feel.
THE WORRY MAKERS AND WORRY TAKERS (Cloud characters):
The Worry Makers are 4 characters that represent automatic negative thoughts and thought distortions that can lead to worry or anxiety. These characters are appealing to children visually and each have a memorable name. Resources clearly show the type of thinking each represent and The Worry Maker cards also list the associated emotions and feelings.
Three of the seven characters featured represent the prefrontal cortex, the logical part of the brain. They will help your child learn to use this rational area of the brain to manage worries. Each of these characters link to the strategy pages in the workbook, making clear links to how the type of thinking they represent can be useful.
We've structured this workbook to ensure you can deliver the programme whether you have a background in mental health and wellbeing or not. By simply reading the learning sheets with your child and then completing each activity, parents can deliver a low level wellbeing programme at home. It can also be used by professionals who may wish to use it within their higher level interventions.
