My Worry Journal
Does your child get overwhelmed with worries and struggle to go to sleep? Do they find it hard to tell you their thoughts face to face? Are you looking for a way to understand their worries and support them?
As featured in The Independent's Indy Best '15 journals for kids to draw in and write down their feelings'.
'My Worry Journal' is a unique journal for kids who feel worried or anxious AND their parents. It's creative concept helps parents communicate with children through a 'Worry Owl'.
What is My Worry Journal?
This journal is a guided space that supports children with worries to reframe them and process them through writing. It gives parents an opportunity to understand their child's thought process and allows them to communicate with their child through the Worry Owl!
How can My Worry Journal help my child?
Through the journal your child will express their worry through writing, a proven wellbeing strategy that helps them process their emotions. With the structured journal entries, your child will reframe the way they see their worry, helping them feel calm at bedtime, which is a notorious time of day for worries take over thinking! My Worry Journal aims to relax your anxious child at bedtime to facilitate good sleep. It contains a brief, child friendly explanation of how worrying can impact sleep.
This empowering journal for little worriers, includes an encouraging letter for your child from the Worry Owl, making it a beautiful gift for children to receive in the mail. The letter has a worry managing strategy on the reverse which you could display to support your child further. Enter your child's name in the personalisation box if you would like their name written on the envelope (inside the parcel packaging).
How does the journal work?
The Worry Owl is a cute character that children can explain their worries to in their journal, by writing to them on a double page journal entry. A child friendly rhyme at the start of the journal (see images), explains the concept to your child as well as an explanation/example page.
The guided pages take your child through the following process:
- takes the worry from their minds and allows them to place it on paper, which in itself is a powerful anxiety strategy!
- colouring a bar to show the extent of their worry, allowing them to consider their perspective of the size of the worry.
- the Worry Owl asks them to think about what their worry is trying to protect them from, encouraging them to look deeper for the root cause
- the Worry Owl encourages them to question the worry with a possible positive outcome, encouraging them to reframe.
This structure has been designed to support your child to process their worry and implement anxiety strategies as they write.
Finally there is space for the Worry Owl to reply with some helpful advice or support! We suggest leaving the journal by your child's bed so the Worry Owl (a.k.a YOU!) can reply overnight. Don't forget!
